michael’s wake

My friend Michael held his “wake” in Wicheta this past weekend, a loving, touching, clinging affair. I wish I could have been there.

Yet these were his friends and kin of a lifetime. I would have known only him, his sister, and his partner Lynn. His old friends needed their time with him alone.

He says he will return here to die. My time will be the hard time: his passage into time.

What a dignified and elegant way to say goodbye at journey’s end!
