sigel rising

Today is the first day of the fortnight of the sun rune Sigel on the runic calendar. It’s the time when even people in cities far to the north begin to notice that the days are getting longer. For me, this is a holy day—a day of light and hope and giving thanks that the coldest days of winter are behind us and springtime is arriving.

The sun has risen over the mountains to the southeast, but as it happens, it is overcast, there is a blustery cold wind from the east, and it is raining. So today it does not seem very much like spring at Estrella Vista–but that’s okay.

I’m warm and comfortable in my little house and there is plenty to keep me occupied. I know that no winter lasts forever and no spring skips its turn; the all-powerful sun will conquer in the end and erase any lingering doubts that spring is here.

Listen to Margaret Whiting performing “It Might As Well Be Spring”

Uggh, it’s so gray and dreary here, I need a second shot!

Listen to Dick Haymes performing “It Might As Well Be Spring”

These are two really great voices from the past. I hope you enjoy them.
