La-la-la-la-la We heard from Blade this morning. There was bounce in his voice. He had finally received his promised radio and earphones; now he can block out the whole awful noisy environment he is in. Music is good medicine.
Yum The Grub Shack finally reopened today, and I went down there for lunch. Jerry was absolutely glowing with happiness that they were back to work. The closure by Big Brother has lasted just days shy of a full year. You have no idea of the hardships this has imposed on Jerry and Eva, two good souls who have never harmed anyone in their lives. But no one was speaking of that today.
They had lots of customers their first new day. Like me, everyone is happy our social space is social again. I had a Jerry Burger smothered with cheese and Italian tomato sauce (you have to eat it with a knife and fork) and made-to-order fresh-fried potato chips. It was great. All is right again in this distant corner of the world.
Late I had intended to publish this post before midnight, but I fell asleep in the chair around seven and slept almost straight through until six. Most of the night was taken up by one of those cherished dreams in which I am briefly reunited with Holly, and then separated. I spent the whole night looking for her, knowing that she was just outside my field of vision or just around the next corner. One of these days my dreams will be fulfilled, but not now.
Now this post is later still because Paco just called to tell me that Nick, one of our good friends from twenty years ago, died today of a drug overdose. Nick is the second of our original gang of Wandervögel to have died. I will always remember that kid literally flying through the air on his bike or snowboard. Gravity has now lost its grip on him forever.
