please give now

I called Dan last night to ask if he’d reached his goal yet of helping Derek King to buy a car, and I learned that we still have a long way to go. Only one monthly payment (of seven) had been raised.

After thinking about it overnight, I called Dan to ask if he’d let me ask for funds, and he said yes. I thought that maybe it would make a difference to you if you knew how important his–and your–support has been to those of us who have been up against the juvenile justice system.

Dan first contacted us when we had given up all hope. More remarkably, he asked for nothing in return. Nothing for himself.

Our situation has changed a lot since Dan and the Redemption Project became involved, and I for one want to see its mission expanded to benefit other kids. If this includes helping Derek King to buy a car, then I am all for it. These kids need to be allowed to live normal lives, but they cannot do it alone. They need your help and mine.

Dan wants to raise $3,000 to help Derek King, but I say we should set this goal higher–to at least $5,000 and maybe even $10,000. How much more could the Redemption Project do if money is no longer a concern?

So I challenge all of us to make this higher goal a reality. I’m prepared to match each and every gift up to $5,000 total. I know that times are tough and not everybody can afford to give a large amount, but under this arrangement everybody can give twice as much than they might otherwise contribute.

The important thing is that Dan and the kids no longer have to face the future alone.

Let’s get behind them. Thank you.
