Johnny Cash died more than a dozen years ago, but his influence on popular music persists.
Yesterday I was particularly taken by this version of “Ring of Fire” by a fetching sister act, Lennon and Maizy Stella, and I went looking for other covers of Cash’s most famous songs.

As influential as he was on others, Cash wasn’t above being influenced himself. He was forever a student of music, always listening for songs that moved him, be they country or other genres. His catalog includes at least 226 covers of songs recorded by other artists.
Today’s Groove of the Day is one such song, made famous by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
