It should be put into perspective. According to these same studies, excessive consumption of meat products is responsible for about 34 000 deaths per year, that of red meat adds approximately 50 000 additional deaths. It is far from the million deaths caused by tobacco, or the 600 000 related to alcohol consumption, each year across the world. The key word here is ‘excessive’. A diet including red meat or meat products is not dangerous, provided they be balanced with fruits and fresh vegetables.

I’m more worried by a trend of ‘modern’ life that grows year after year, the consumption of precooked dishes – these industrially manufactured products one swallows because we find no time to cook (or that we no longer want to do so). It is this kind of dishes which led to the development of obesity and its corollaries such as cardiovascular diseases, much more deadly than the consumption of meat.
