It’s the holidays, most of us are distracted with last-minute shopping, cooking, and gatherings of family and friends, and I have decided to take a more relaxed attitude towards writing for the Diary. I’m not saying there won’t be substantive posts; only that I intend to rely more on the presentation of appropriate holiday music.
It’s my way of taking a recess from the research and writing you have grown to expect, and devoting more time and attention to my family and friends—which is, after all, what makes this time of year truly special and memorable for most of us.
I hope you won’t mind too much, but I know you’ll understand.
I will note, however, that we have entered a period of days on both sides of the Solstice when the Sun, too, is taking a recess from its travels across the southern sky and appears to stand still before once again resuming its journey to the north.
What better example to follow than the Sun itself for savoring the true meaning of the season?
